Adventure Who?
What is Adventure Travel and Why you Should Try It

I sat down with a friend recently at our favorite café, catching up on life, sipping on our coffees and lattes and re-connecting after several months.  We talked about everything—work, relationships, and, of course, travel.

She had just come back from a European hotspot and was disappointed.  “The crowds…it was all so…touristy”.   She longed to get out of the cities and explore.  She was curious as to what more the country had to offer. “Perhaps you should try doing more adventure travel”, I mentioned. ” Adventure who?”  she laughed, “No way, I’m not doing any bungee jumping”.

Wait, hear me out.

What is Adventure Travel?

Adventure doesn’t have to mean extreme sports or dangerous activities!

When we think of “adventure,” it’s easy to picture activities like bungee jumping or mountain climbing. But here’s the thing:  adventure isn’t just about chasing adrenaline or risks.

What I’m talking about is experiential travel—the kind of travel where you truly connect with the world around you. We’re talking visiting communities, embracing culture, experiencing local food, art, history… whatever lights you up.

It’s about stepping outside of your comfort zone and saying “yes” to new experiences, perhaps a little off the “tourist” route.  And those experiences can be as simple as visiting small towns, walking through a peaceful forest, trying out paddleboarding, joining a local cooking class or sipping wine while watching a sunset in an entirely new place (yes, please!).

Adventure travel is about finding beauty in the unfamiliar, going off the beaten path, and you know what…it’s accessible to anyone who is curious, open-minded and willing to try something new.

Gurl, You Don’t Need a Spa, You Need Perspective!

You know those big life stuff—like a job that’s draining the life out of you, a milestone birthday (you know the one), or a shift in your personal relationships? They can leave us feeling a little unsure about who we are.

Suddenly, we’re wondering: “Who am I outside of my job and family role?”

Here’s where adventure travel works its magic.

When we explore new places or try something we’ve never done before, we start seeing the world differently.

We get a bigger perspective—about life, people, and even about ourselves. It’s like hitting a reset button for your soul.

And There’s More…

  • The Me Factor:  Traveling to new, unfamiliar places challenges us, helps us see other cultures, and reminds us that we’re stronger and more capable than we give ourselves credit for. And trust me, this kind of change can be super empowering and a huge confidence booster, showing us that we can handle whatever life throws at us.
  •  The Health Factor:  Stepping out of your comfort zone is a game-changer, research backs it up.  Studies show that trying new things can boost your mental sharpness, flexibility and creativity —especially as we get older. Tackling a hiking trail, navigating a new language, or exploring an unfamiliar town. Each small challenge we take on helps us build resilience and strength, both physically and mentally.
  • The Stress Factor:  Adventure travel almost always includes some element of nature.  We know that being outdoors can help you feel refreshed and energized. When you take a break from your usual office or home environment and immerse yourself in nature, it can relieve the tension from your daily routine, clear your mind, and boost your health. Exploring places filled with natural beauty and open spaces can lift your mood, reduce stress, and help you unwind.  Win-win.
  • The Happy Factor:  Its been proven, people who focus on experiences—not material things—are happier.  Adventure travel is the ultimate way to live this out. These are the moments we remember, the stories we tell, the memories that stick with us.  Those experiences help us find joy in the little things in life—and in ourselves.

Just. Go.

Adventure travel is a reminder that we can still grow, discover, and reconnect with the world through travel at any stage of life.

And here’s the best part:  adventure travel is for everyone who is curious, open-minded and willing to try something new.

Whether it’s exploring a new country or rediscovering your own city, adventure travel is all about connecting with people, places, and cultures. It’s a chance to understand the world—and yourself—in a deeper way, stepping outside the familiar and exploring who we are, who we want to be, and how we can evolve to be our best selves AND it’s good for your health and well being.

What more can you ask for?

And remember: you don’t have to climb a mountain or zip-line through a jungle (unless you want to!). It can be as simple as stepping into a new destination, trying something unfamiliar, perhaps off the regular beaten path, and letting yourself be transformed.

Change Your Perspective, Change Your Life.

Think adventure travel isn’t for you? Think again! Let’s redefine what adventure really means and why it might just be the missing piece in your travel story.  Let me hear your thoughts.
